Purpose
The Vac Truck Operator will be responsible for operating vacuum trucks to remove and transport liquids, sludge, and debris from storm sewers, catch basins, lift stations, and other underground utilities. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and efficient job execution.
Essential Duties
- Safely operate vacuum trucks, hydro excavation equipment, and other related machinery.
- Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with tanker and air brake endorsements.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of the truck, including checking fluid levels, hoses, and filters.
- Remove debris, sludge, and other materials from storm sewers, manholes, and industrial facilities.
- Follow all safety regulations and company procedures for operating heavy equipment.
- Work in various weather conditions and environments, including confined spaces.
- Assist with setting up job sites, including traffic control and safety barriers.
- Complete required documentation, such as work orders, logs, and incident reports.
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment and ensure proper disposal of collected materials.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients to ensure job completion.
- Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations regarding waste disposal and environmental protection.

Qualifications Required
- Minimum of 1 year of experience operating vacuum trucks or similar equipment
- Knowledge of hydro excavation, sewer maintenance, and industrial cleaning techniques
- Valid driver license with a clean driving record
- The ability to travel 100% of the time on a weekly basis during the construction season.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
- Ability to handle and resolve interpersonal conflict
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced, stressful work environment
- Ability to respond quickly, accurately, and professionally to demands and requests from customers and employees

Preferred
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification
- Confined space entry and rescue certification
- Experience in storm sewer maintenance or industrial cleaning
Physical Requirements
Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to work in confined spaces.
